| Born of a small Pennsylvanian town, with hopes of taking the creative world by storm, my belief has stayed constant, of art’s capability to revolutionize perspectives, as well as changing the world and the ways people look at their own lives. My greatest fascination lies in the boundless expression of artists, conveying their own unique messages through imagination. Since my youth, I can remember the joy I experienced drawing monsters, wild-looking automobiles, and aliens from other worlds, the same happiness that is the inspiration for what I do, and that I hope my viewers are feeling along with me. Explaining my style is a difficult issue, because my motivations come from numerous different places, however I could say that much of what I design does have a certain unambiguous comic book feel to it. I like to entertain myself with various forms of art and design including, but not limited to, illustration, graphic design, and a little video animation, among others. The majority of the work I do comes from my own imagination, which means I rarely, if ever, draw from an outside reference. I have no objection to artists drawing from photographs exclusively, yet I find that it does not require as much inventiveness and relies more on technique than actual skill, much like a draftsman. In my opinion, it is a pitiable excuse for not having a photo-realistic style. Freethinking is a vital element in my artwork, as I feel I can take my skill to a new level by incorporating and utilizing fresh, innovative ideas. I occasionally try different approaches to a piece I’m working on; the outcome is not always the one I had hoped for, although the risk is always worth taking. To name just a few, my inspirations would include Todd McFarlane, Erik Larsen, Jack Kirby, and Andy Warhol. I also gather ideas and/or concepts from the Star Wars films and pop culture in general. I have a great love for the comics’ graphic form and infinite respect for those working in the field, the ability to create such vivacious characters from the top of one’s head is such an amazing talent. In retrospect, I hope that I have shed a bit of light on what kind of a person I am, art is my way of life and at the end of the day, I’m simply a guy who likes to draw pretty pictures. |
